Introduction to Microscopic Life

Service Description

This is a fun, hands-on introduction to the scientific method, microscopes, different types and how to use them, the microscopic world. We will work in pairs and small groups. What we are going to cover: The Scientific Method The parts of a Scanning and Electron Microscope Who was Antonie van Leeuwenhoek? Preparing a wet mount Preparing a smear slide Petri Dish Experiments and the different types of bacteria and microscopic life This is a wonderful opportunity to explore a new learning opportunity and make new friends! Pre-Requisites: This class is intended for children in 3rd-7th grade. Some writing and reading ability is needed. We will draw out the things that we observe underneath the microscope and learn about what is needed in a lab report,. Fees: This class will meet for six sessions. Each lesson will build upon itself. Class fees are $115 per student with a 30% sibling discount available. The full fee is due when you register for this class. We have a drop off Wednesday Enrichment block from 10am-1pm that you can register for here that includes this class and our "Hands on American History" class. We also offer monthly classes on Wednesday afternoons. This is a drop off class. We are a small business and we have maximized our class space which means we only have a small space for parents to wait, but you are welcome to utilize it if you prefer!
